  • 演講摘要 : This study investigates the potential impact of daily air pollution exposure on individual health outcomes, focusing on communities residing near coal and LNG power plants in Taiwan. Recognizing these power plants as significant sources of air pollution in the region, we aim to explore the associations between exposure to pollutants, such as Particulate Matter (PM2.5, PM10), carbon monoxide (CO), and various health outcomes among local residents. Drawing from existing literature and theoretical frameworks, we hypothesize that fluctuations in daily air pollution emissions from these power plants may influence the health of nearby residents. Leveraging idiosyncratic variations in wind direction and wind direction times power generated as instrumental variables (IV), we estimate the population dose-response of health outcomes to daily pollutant exposure. By employing wind direction and its interaction with power generation as IVs, we seek to identify the causal impact of air pollution on health outcomes. Our analysis aims to uncover a clear relationship between pollution levels and health outcomes within the population. We expect that as daily pollution levels rise, there will be a corresponding increase in hospital visits for respiratory and heart-related issues. Additionally, we aim to quantify any disparities in health outcomes between communities near coal and LNG power plants. This exploration of potential health effects may highlight the advantages of enforcing stricter pollution control measures.
