演講者簡介 : Dr. Yuta Suzuki received his Ph.D. in Economics from the Pennsylvania State University in 2022. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Economics at Hitotsubashi University. His research interests are Spatial Economics, International Trade, Regional Economics, and Demography.
演講摘要 : Chinese local governments segment land markets by use, granting large discounts for manufacturing land relative to services, especially in provinces with weaker comparative advantage in manufacturing. We develop a multi-sector spatial equilibrium model with firm entry and input–output linkages where local governments non-cooperatively choose land allocations. Land pricing patterns are best rationalized by an objective to maximize manufacturing output, though real-income-maximizing governments also favor manufacturing because firm entry in manufacturing yields higher social returns due to stronger input–output linkages. Observed policies lower national welfare by 2.2% relative to equal land prices, whereas real-income-maximizing policies approach the cooperative outcome.
