  • 演講摘要 : We study banking competition in lending to heterogeneous borrowers who differ in repayment probabilities. Borrowers' loan histories are informative about their types. Yet detailed histories are observed only by the borrower and the associated home bank, while rival banks observe only a coarse public record, similar to a credit score. We characterize equilibrium outcomes under three information regimes that differ in whether such information can be shared across banks and whether sharing is voluntary. Mandatory sharing is dominated, while the welfare comparison between no sharing and optional sharing depends on the environment. Our results show the limits of a central policy rationale for open banking: although greater information sharing can intensify competition, it need not improve welfare.
