演講者簡介 : Dr. Brian McCaig received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Toronto in 2009. He is currently a Professor at Wilfrid Laurier University. His research interests are International Trade and Economic Development.
演講摘要 : We examine the effects on domestic firms of selling to foreign-invested firms in Vietnam. Event study estimates suggest that domestic firms experience no appreciable changes in employment, revenue, or revenue per worker, relative to comparable firms, after selling to a foreign-invested buyer for the first time. The lack of an effect is likely driven by a combination of low persistence in selling to foreign-invested firms and a high share of domestic firms selling final goods, such as clothing and office products, to the foreign-invested firms. This pattern is consistent with a high share of imported intermediate goods reported by foreign-invested firms as well as sourcing a large share of their domestically sourced inputs from other foreign-invested firms located in Vietnam.
