演講者簡介 : Professor Ning Leng received her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2018. She is currently an Assistant Professor at Georgetown University. Her research examines how nondemocratic institutions create unintended consequences in state-business relations and development outcomes, including public service provision, infrastructure building, and environment policy making.
演講摘要 : This study provides us with a nuanced view of this complicated relationship between the Chinese Communist Party and the private sector of the economy. Using detailed case studies (the urban bus sector and waste management), I demonstrate how businesses are seen as providing career support to individual officials through visibility projects and providing systemic support aiding social control. Government-business relations are driven by the incentive system under which local officials operate.
