演講摘要 : We investigate how innovation influences migration across skill groups in China. Cities experiencing faster patent growth tend to attract more low-skilled migrants than high-skilled ones, contrasting with patterns observed in developed economies. A spatial equilibrium model suggests that this difference arises from greater wage sensitivity among low-skilled workers and higher amenity sensitivity among high-skilled workers. Patent shocks increase wages for both groups, but they draw in more low-skilled migrants than high-skilled ones. This shift in the skill ratio reduces local amenities, subsequently deterring high-skilled migration. Counterfactual analyses indicate that technological growth in China has significantly reduced national welfare inequality.
