演講者簡介 : Professor Jean M Imbs received his Ph.D. in Economics from New York University in 1999. He is currently a Global Network Professor of Economics at New York University Abu Dhabi. His research interests are Macroeconomics, International Finance and Macroeconomics, and International Trade.
演講摘要 : We assemble a new global dataset on submarine cables covering topology, redundancy, and transmission capacity from 2010 to 2025. We document exponential growth in capacity alongside remarkably stable network geography. Despite this expansion, redundancy and capacity remain uneven, and percolation analysis reveals persistent fragility for much of the world. Centrality and intercentrality measures show that a small set of hubs in the Middle East–Africa–South Asia corridor now account for a disproportionate share of global connectivity. We also quantify countries' exposure to sabotage and show that network centrality is strongly correlated with vulnerability to deep-sea disruptions.
