  • 演講摘要 : Physical distancing measures were implemented in Taiwan to help curb the spread of COVID-19. The fear of contracting or spreading the virus may also discourage physical contact with non-coresiding family members. This study investigates changes in adults’ virtual and physical contact with non-coresiding parents in Taiwan before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic, using panel data from the 2014-2024 Panel Study of Family Dynamics. Preliminary results from the event study indicate that, since the onset of the pandemic, not only has the frequency of visits with parents decreased, but the frequency of virtual contact (e.g., phone, instant messaging) has also declined. In addition, as of 2024, neither the frequency of physical contact nor that of virtual contact has returned to pre-pandemic levels. Further analyses are required to explore the possible mechanisms behind these findings.
