演講者簡介 : Professor Han Yang received his PhD from Penn State University in 2019. He is currently an Assistant Research Fellow at Academia Sinica. His research interests are international trade and macroeconomics, with additional focus on the economics of gaming, digital economy, development, and environment economics.
演講摘要 : This research delves into the intricate relationship between international trade and the globally observed decline in labor share. Drawing from a meticulously constructed general equilibrium trade model with endogenous technology selection, we find that an increase in international trade correlates with a decrease in labor share. Leveraging real-world data for model calibration, our findings indicate that international trade can elucidate approximately one-third of the worldwide decline in labor share. Significantly, our results are robust and independent of the elasticity of substitution between capital and labor, suggesting that the implications of trade on labor's share of income are profound and demand further policy considerations.
