演講者簡介 : Professor Jia received her Ph.D. in International Economic Studies from Stockholm University in 2013. She is currently an associate Professor at the University of California, San Diego. Professor Jia is interested in the interplay of economics, history and politics. One stream of her research focuses on understanding elite formation and elite influence, in both historical and modern contexts. A second focus of her work is the deep historical roots of economic development. More recently, she started following the ongoing transformation of the manufacturing sector in China and expanded her interest to labor and technology issues.
演講摘要 : How do people get mobilized into collective action that sometimes changes the trajectory of history? Among many determinants, the importance of ideas has long been noted and debated. At the same time, the impact of ideas on individuals is often elusive and difficult to prove. In this study, we use the spread of Communist ideology in China to demonstrate how ideas can affect individuals’ political actions, which ultimately shaped the fate of modern China.
