演講者簡介 : Professor Hsu received his Ph.D. in Economics from University of Minnesota in 2008. He is currently an Associate Professor in Singapore Management University. His main research fields are Applied Micro Theory, International Economics, Urban and Regional Economics, and Industrial Organization.
演講摘要 : This paper develops a dynamic general equilibrium North-South model of international trade and endogenous growth via innovation. There are two types of innovation with the first being the upgrading of general purpose technology and the second being the entrepreneurial activities that develop differentiated products. We find sizable welfare gains from trade in our dynamic model relative to the static model where the incentives for the general purpose technology innovation is fully shut down. The share of dynamic gains from trade when comparing with autarky is large, accounting for over 80% of the total gains in our benchmark economy.
