  • 演講摘要 : Several institutional changes and financial innovations occurred in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, which had an impact on the cost of capital. This study aims to calculate commercial interest rates in the seventeenth century. By comparing the results with those from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the study will reveal that international credit markets responded quickly to institutional and financial changes and the cost of capital in the seventeenth century fell to a level similar to that of later periods. The calculation of commercial interest rates is based on the different exchange rates, therefore the geography of international credit can be mapped.
