演講摘要 : We conducted a randomized control trial of a decision-support software to quantify whether machine-generated individualized information and advice can change consumer choices of insurance plans. Our intervention significantly increased plan switching, cost savings, time spent choosing a plan, and choice process satisfaction. We found strong evidence of systematic self-selection into software use: more active shoppers were more likely to take up the intervention, while individuals who would have responded to treatment the most, were least likely to sign up. A model of consumer decision-making suggests that information provision affected consumers' signals about both product features (learning) and utility weights (interpretation).
