演講者簡介 : Professor Kimura received his Ph.D. in Economics from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1991. He is currently a Professor at Keio University. His primary research field are International trade, development economics and secondary are Economic growth theory, applied microeconomics, and Japanese/Asian economies.
演講摘要 : Anti-globalization sentiment is at least partially based on the belief that globalization would necessarily aggravate income distribution and destroy domestic employment. Is it true? Can such a statement be applied for all countries in all times? Is there any possibility that policies could make the situation better? The paper presents a preliminary thought on this issue from the viewpoints of the international trade theory as well as recently accumulated empirical studies. A tentative conclusion is that the Stolper-Samuelson Theorem cannot be applied as it is and the relationship between globalization and domestic employment widely differs across countries at different development stages and depends on the extent of utilizing global value chains.
