演講者簡介 : Professor Chung received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1999. He is currently a professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research interests include Institutional Design, Game Theory, and Trade and Development.
演講摘要 : Temporal quality is a dimension of quality that only time can tell. When firms scale down their investments in temporal quality, their blueprints are less able to stand the test of time, necessitating their replacement by even newer blueprints, and generating an illusion for observers that firms have speeded up their innovations. Firms’ equilibrium investments in temporal quality are not affected by international trade in a large class of trade models. Innovation policies that lower firms’ temporal- quality investment cost would increase firms’ equilibrium investments in temporal quality only if they also decrease marginal-to-total ratio in investment cost. Firms with lower temporal-quality investment cost are also more likely to offshore their production.
