演講者簡介 : Professor Liao received his Ph.D. from University of California, Berkeley. He is currently an Assistant Professor of National Taiwan University. His research interests include Socially Responsible Operations, Social Network, Operations-marketing Interface, and Information Management.
演講摘要 : It is no longer a dream that we can make the world a better place while making money. This emerging research area is called socially responsible operations. It focuses on new business models that seek balance between “doing good” and “doing well”. Here we discuss some examples about the theoretical implications of (1) improving farmers’ welfare through information provision in developing countries and (2) preventing diabetes through long-term conditional cash transfer programs. We study the profitability and possible improvement of these business models, and examine the influence on the overall welfare. Also, we discuss the possible policies the government can make to ensure the good things happen.
