She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics, National Tsing Hua University. 演講摘要 : This paper investigates how the life outcomes of second generation immigrants are affected by inter-ethnic marriage of their parents. Conceptually there are two major mechanisms producing opposite effects:
the marital surplus mechanism suggests that children of intermarriage would receive less effective parental inputs. This could negatively affect child development. The human capital and identity mechanism suggests that children growing up in an intermarried household could be more disconnected from their ethnic roots. Such detachment could enhance general human capital acquisition over ethnic specific human capital. This investment strategy tends to be beneficial to the market success of immigrants. The historical evidence from the United States reveals that second generation immigrants of inter-ethnic marriage have less stable marriage but better market prospects.
