演講者簡介 : Professor Chang received his Ph.D. in Applied Economics and Management from Cornell University in 2006. He is currently a Professor at the Department of Agricultural Economics, National Taiwan University. His research fields are Agricultural & Public Policy Analysis, Food Consumption and Health, Farm Household Economics and Applied Microeconometrics.
演講摘要 : This paper empirically assesses the impact of Uber service on taxi drivers' business performance and market power in Taiwan. A difference-in-difference model is estimated using a population-based dataset of 21,121 taxi drivers. The results indicate that Uber reduced regular taxi drivers' service revenues, operating costs and profit margins by approximately 8%, 4% and 4% on average, respectively. Moreover, the negative impact of Uber is more pronounced among taxi motorcade members. To cope with competition from Uber, taxi drivers are more likely to have advertisement on or in their taxicabs and to provide better ride service.
