演講者簡介 : Professor Teng received his Ph.D. in Economics from University of East Anglia. He is currently an Assistant Professor at National Taipei University. His research fields are Public Finance and Economics.
演講摘要 : Advocating for the welfare of the least advantaged, the maximin principle forms the foundation of the Rawlsian social contract widely discussed in various social sciences, despite receiving little empirical support. We conduct laboratory experiments and find a salient majority of subjects obeying this principle, unlike previous studies finding a minority. Following John Rawls’ own thought, the key to our departure lies in that allocating monetary payoffs between subjects embodies not only the distribution of final earnings, but more importantly, the distribution of “primary social goods,” which serve as instruments critical to one’s future success in a subsequent real effort task.
