演講摘要 : Most adolescents build up their self-control, but some of them mature earlier than
the others. Hence the process is neither a heterogeneity nor a age effect. This paper
adds a two-stage maturation process to a standard model with the two components.
This model can infer when adolescents mature. In the NLSY97, the distributions of maturation age for the two genders are close. Maturation leads to a decrease in risky behaviors, explaining their hump-shaped age profile. It also increases explanatory power by an order of magnitude. I then discuss general identification. For a structural interpretation, I build a Planner-Doer model with dynamic self-control.
