Informative Producer Services in A Model of R&D, Endogenous Growth, and Economic Development

演講者簡介 : Professor Huang received his Ph.D. in Economics from North Carolina State University in 2012. He is currently an Assistnat Professor at Department of Economics, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Chengdu, China. His primary research fields are Macroeconomics and Economic Growth; Secondary fields are Applied Econometrics, International Finance, and Industrial Organization.
演講摘要 : Informative producer services, such as consulting, advertising, technical support, repair, and maintenance services are introduced into an endogenous growth model of variety-expansion. These services is to overcome the information frictions, generated in the process of technology specialization. I find that: (i) these services increase the steady state rate of growth; (ii) whether an economy may fall into a development trap or cross a threshold to provide informative producer services and grow in the long run depends on its market scale and the productivity of these services; (iii) subsidizing informative producer services can stimulate economic growth; however, does not help the economy achieve its social optimum.
