演講者簡介 : Professor Hung received her Ph.D. in Economics from New York University in 1988. She is currently Project Professor of Economics at National Chung Cheng University. Her research fields are Open-Economy Macroeconomics, International Trade, International Finance, Growth and Development.
演講摘要 : This paper discusses how globalization can affect the labor share of national income, although its initial impacts occur to the tradable sector. It also estimates the effect of globalization on the labor share in the U.S. manufacturing, the primary tradable sector. Our empirical results indicate that some globalization indicators are negative, while others positive, on the manufacturing sector’s labor share. An increase in the outward FDI or import penetration has a negative effect, but an increase in the export share has a positive effect, on the labor share. An increase in foreign affiliates’ jobs yields a modest net increase in the labor share over two years, though not initially. Together, those globalization indicators cut the manufacturing labor share by about 6 percentage points during 1999-2009. (JEL E25, F11, F12, F16, F20, F62)
