演講摘要 : This paper extends the analysis of marginal treatment effects by Heckman and Vytlacil (1999, 2005) to identify parameters measuring the costs and net gains in addition to gross benefits arising from participation in a program within the context of a generalized Roy model. We nonparametrically identify the cost, benefit, and net surplus of selection into treatment, without requiring the analyst to have any direct information on the cost of the treatment. We apply our methodology to study selection into college, and find evidence of substantial heterogeneity in subjective costs of college attendance as perceived by agents.
