演講者簡介 : Guang-Zhen Sun received his Ph.D. in Economics from Monash University in 1999. He is currently serving as Associate Professor of Economics at University of Macau. His research field is in microeconomics, political economy and history of ideas in economics.
演講摘要 : This talk largely draws upon few chapters of a forthcoming book (The Economics of the Division of Labor: A History, to be published by Routledge, London and New York, February 2012) and focuses on some old ideas and principles developed by Adam Smith and some of their important implications for modern economics. Adam Smith’s scholarship of the division of labor is far richer, more comprehensive and deeper than generally portrayed. Creatively weaving the study of generation and circulation of wealth into an overall framework of natural and historical jurisprudence, Smith successfully developed his system of natural liberty, in which the benefits of the division of labor that are fully realized in an unfettered market system account for both the development and the nature of commercial society. In so doing, Smith firmly laid down the foundation of economic liberalism, and set out a very promising research program that has kept the economics profession busy for long, but perhaps not long enough yet.
