演講者簡介 : Hanjoon Michael Jung got his Ph.D. in Economics from Penn State University in 2007. He is currently serving as Assistant Research Fellow of Institute of Economics, Academia Sinica. His research field is in microeconomic theory, game theory, industrial organization, and political economy.
演講摘要 : Dairy products are characterized by two properties, namely, perishability and periodic production. These properties are so unique that conventional studies in agricultural economics or in industrial organization might not well explain the dairy products supply. Hence, to understand this dairy products supply, we model it based on these two properties. We find that perishability and periodic production induce a unique form of the delivery costs, and as a consequence they give rise to two distinctive features of the dairy products supply model which are economies of scale in transportation and accessibility advantage. The economies of scale in transportation arise because greater productions reduce average delivery costs per unit. The accessibility advantage occurs because lower delivery costs reduce total delivery costs.
