演講者簡介 : De-Fen Lo got her Ph.D. in Economics from Michigan State University in 2000. She is currently serving as Associate Professor of Economics at National Dong Hwa University. Her research interest is in applied econometrics, labor economics, macroeconomics, and educational economics.
演講摘要 : The strong and positive correlation between schooling and health has been long evidenced in previous research. While self-reported health was widely accepted as a measure of health outcome, the estimated health returns to schooling may be contaminated by the measurement error. In this paper, we investigate the effect of schooling on both self-reported health and disease prevalence. The results provide evidence that perceived health returns to schooling are much larger than actual returns. It is also found that among people who have long-standing illness, the more educated are more likely to rate themselves as in good health status than the less educated counterpart.
