演講摘要 : This paper examines the effect of technology adoption on economic development in a standard overlapping generations model. The key to successful technology adoption is a country’s ability to technology assimilation. If technology assimilation is weak, then wages are not sufficient to support capital used by the advanced capital-intensive technology. As a result, future production declines and a poverty trap is formed. If technology assimilation is strong, then converging to the steady state of the rich is almost a sure outcome through technology adoption. Finally, by extending the analysis to a world ecomnomy context, we are able to obtain the "Twin Peaks" phenomenon of club convergence.
