  • 演講摘要 : Kahn and Antonucci (1981) propose that a convoy is a dynamic support structure composed of three concentric circles. In this study household members are included and taken as being in the most inner circle. Non-coresidence family-members are then added to the second most inner circle to reflect differential support functions of family members by residence. Finally, relatives and friends are introduced into the third and fourth circles to fully depict one’s support network. Data of a probability sample collected in Taiwan are used to test two hypotheses: (1) The household- based convoy is a composite of a group and individuals, and (2) The household-based convoy is simply a composite of individuals. In this analysis we find that households function better as being types of a family rather than individuals in the numbers of support exchanged. In addition, the observation of a significant effect of size for non-coresidence family members suggests that a corporate group is formed with the two most inner layers of the convoy.
