Call for Papers

We cordially invite you to submit theoretical and empirical papers in all areas of environmental, natural resource and energy economics to the Fifth Congress of the East Asian Association of Environmental and Resource Economics (EAAERE), which will be held in Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan, between August 5th and 7th in 2015. After the previous four Congresses held in Hokkaido (2010), Bandung (2012), Huangsan (2013) and Busan (2014), colleagues around the world are welcome to attend the Fifth Congress in Taipei and to visit this beautiful city in the summer of 2015. The Institute of Economics in Academia Sinica, the Department of Economics at National Taipei University, the Taiwan Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (TAERE), and the Institute of Nuclear Energy Research will be your local hosts.

The Main Theme

The main theme of the Fifth Congress of the EAAERE is “Green Economy and Sustainable Development.” Although the idea of sustainable development has been implemented in many areas since 1985, the progress has not been satisfactory. We may need to formulate another plan of action to guide future progress. At the Conference on Sustainable Development held by the United Nations in Rio, 2012, the attendants agreed that implementing a green economy was the pathway to sustainable development and poverty eradication. However, many unanswered questions still must be tackled before we can successfully transit from the current brown economy to a green one. These questions include: what economic instruments could internalize intergenerational externalities, what policies could avoid and/or improve intergenerational inequalities, what macroeconomic policies could promote a green economy, what types of policy instruments could be used to green industries, what stimulus programs could induce higher levels of innovation needed for a green economy, what international trade policies could spur the development of a green economy, etc. Members and colleagues will have an excellent opportunity to discuss various issues related to sustainable development, green growth and green economy at this Congress.

Guidelines for Submissions

The Fifth Congress of the EAAERE will be composed of thematic sessions, contributing paper sessions, and poster sessions. Submissions relevant to the main theme are strongly encouraged.

  • To submit contributing papers, the authors are required to provide an abstract within three pages that includes the title of the paper, name(s) of the author(s), objectives, methods adopted, and the major findings.
  • To submit a proposal to organize a thematic session, three papers connected by a unifying theme are required. The theme should be of interest to a broad collection of researchers on environmental, resource and energy economics and policy studies. We hope that the papers to be presented at the thematic sessions are inspiring and have robust scientific foundations. The various sessions will run in parallel during the same time slot at the Fifth Congress of the EAAERE. The organizer(s) of a thematic session should send a proposal titled “Thematic Session,” which contains: (a) name(s) of the organizer(s); (b) the title of the proposal; (c) a short description of the theme, including the motivation(s) and an explanation about how papers in this session individually and jointly contribute to the theme; and (d) titles, author names, and a two-page abstract for each of the three papers in the thematic session.

The organizer(s) must attend the Fifth Congress, and chair the proposed thematic session. In addition, the organizer(s) should ensure that all the nominated participants in the proposed thematic session are aware of and abide by the rules. There is no financial support for any thematic session, and all the participants are required to pay a full conference registration fee.

  • To submit a paper for poster sessions, the author(s) are required to provide an abstract within three pages that includes the title of the paper, name(s) of the author(s), objectives, methods adopted, and the (expected) major findings.
